Duncan Ferguson Named Glentoran Manager on Multi-Year Deal, Targets End to Title Drought

Everton legend Duncan Ferguson is back in the dugout. The former striker has been sensationally named as the new manager of Irish Premiership side Glentoran on a multi-year contract.

Aiming to End a Title Drought

Glentoran haven’t lifted the league title since 2009, despite significant backing from owner Ali Pour and a move to a full-time professional model. Ferguson made his ambitions crystal clear: “I want to win trophies here. Glentoran should be challenging for the title and every cup and shield we enter.”

His first game in charge comes quickly — a home clash with Ballymena United on Saturday (15:00 BST).

Big Dunc’s coaching journey has been varied. He served as assistant manager at Everton under Carlo Ancelotti, Rafael Benitez, Roberto Martinez and Ronald Koeman, twice stepping in as caretaker boss, before taking head-coach roles at Forest Green Rovers and Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

His former Dundee United team-mate Gary Bollan, who worked with him at Inverness, joins as assistant. Owner Pour said the appointment reflects the club’s “ambition to win trophies.”

“Their support has to be earned, and I am looking forward to getting started,” Ferguson added.
