The Irregular at Magic High School Magian Company Vol. 12 Tops Oricon's September Light Novel Ranking

The Irregular at Magic High School franchise is proving it still rules the light novel world. Magian Company volume 12, the latest entry in the long-running series, sold 24,222 copies to top Oricon’s Monthly Light Novel Ranking for September 2026, leaving the rest of the chart trailing well behind.

Oricon announced the September chart on October 9, tracking estimated print sales at retail outlets across Japan from August 31 to September 27. The twelfth volume of Tsutomu Satou and Kana Ishida’s sequel saga shipped on September 10, and it needed just a couple of weeks to claim the top spot.

Monogatari and Angel Next Door Round Out the Top Three

Taking second place was Torimonogatari, the newest Monogatari Series volume from NISIOISIN and VOFAN, which shipped on September 4 and moved 16,599 copies. NISIOISIN’s vampire saga continues to be one of the most dependable sellers in the industry, and its silver-medal finish keeps the streak alive.

In third came The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten volume 13 by Saekisan and Hanekoto, with 14,483 copies sold after shipping on September 12. The romantic series keeps its momentum going strong, fresh off the anime’s second season which aired 12 episodes starting in April.

Franchise Power Keeps Magian Company on Top

The result is another reminder of just how durable The Irregular at Magic High School has become. The franchise’s latest anime, the movie THE MOVIE – Yotsuba Succession Arc –, opened in Japan on May 8 and is set to screen in the United States and Canada on November 1, 3, and 4 — a North American theatrical push that shows the property still has serious global pull.

Elsewhere on the chart, familiar heavyweights packed the top 10, including Witch on the Holy Night: Part 1 at #4, My Youth Romantic Comedy Is Wrong, As I Expected: Ketsu 3 at #5, and A Certain Magical Index: Genesis Testament 16 at #6. It was a month where established franchises dominated, but Magian Company stood tallest of them all.
