Drew McIntyre is officially blowing up in Hollywood — with films alongside Russell Crowe and Henry Cavill on the way. But the Scotsman says his acting career could have started years earlier if Vince McMahon hadn’t made a habit of personally threatening agents who tried to cast him.

Speaking on Busted Open Radio, McIntyre revealed just how fiercely McMahon guarded his top stars. “I won’t say some names, but the biggest names of all and the biggest names of all time — Vince called and threatened to murder agents trying to get me into projects,” he laughed. “He was very much in this mindset.”
The Old Regime vs. The New One
McIntyre acknowledged there was a logic behind McMahon’s protectiveness: back then, the schedule was relentless — live events three times a week, 52 weeks a year — and the company needed its biggest names on the road selling tickets.
“Vince was very much like, ‘I need you here.’ To be fair, we had so many live events back in the day,” McIntyre said. “I get it, but there were some big opportunities.”
Things are very different under the current regime. With Nick Khan and Triple H running things, WWE superstars can now take on outside projects that were once off the table. “Nick and Paul are in the mindset that if it makes sense and helps everybody, and helps my brand — which helps their brand,” McIntyre explained. “I’m not going anywhere anytime soon.”
Hollywood’s Calling
McIntyre has been off WWE television since WrestleMania 42, spending the past year filming — including a three-month shoot in Spain — while keeping up his in-ring training on the side. Fans have been waiting for his in-ring return, but his growing Hollywood slate suggests the wait is about to become worthwhile.
