For years, Drew McIntyre carried his sword Angela to the ring — and for years, fans asked the obvious question: when is he actually going to use it? It turns out McIntyre had a gruesome plan in mind, and he pitched it directly to Vince McMahon. The idea was shut down.

Speaking on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, McIntyre revealed how far he was willing to go to pay off the sword gimmick. “I stuck it in the ring, and I stuck it in the table — Pearce’s table,” he said. “But finally, I also pitched to the big man himself. I was like, ‘Hey, you know Saving Private Ryan?’ Vince had never seen Saving Private Ryan, so I explained…”

McIntyre’s plan was cinematic in the most literal sense. Pointing to how the classic war film used real amputee actors to achieve realistic limb-loss effects, he proposed a WrestleMania-scale fight sequence: “We should have a fight sequence where we end up backstage, then we hit the pre-tape where I swing the sword at somebody. Whoosh — arm comes off. Finally, I use the sword, pay it off.”
His reasoning was pure storyteller logic: “It’s bothering me. I’m a stickler for details. I’ve had the sword for so long. I have to stab someone.”
Unsurprisingly, the idea never made it past the pitch stage — though McIntyre jokes that between his fast-talking excitement and Vince’s unfamiliarity with the reference film, he’s not sure the chairman even followed the full pitch.
He Finally Gets To Use The Sword
The payoff is finally coming — just not in a WWE ring. “Finally, all those years later, Agent of Shadows, Drew McIntyre is going to go shanking. I’m stabbing some people. The Drew McIntyre guarantee. I finally use the sword!” he declared.
Agent of Shadows is WWE’s upcoming vertical short production, and McIntyre is promising fans that the sword Angela will finally see action there.
