The Iceblade Sorcerer Shall Rule the World Light Novel Volume 10 Teases Finale on December 2

The end may be near for Ray White’s story. Kodansha is listing the 10th volume of Nana Mikoshiba’s The Iceblade Sorcerer Shall Rule the World light novels with a blurb teasing a story finale. The volume ships on December 2.

From Narō to a Quiet Farewell

Mikoshiba’s original story launched on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō website in October 2019 and wrapped up in February 2022, so a finale for the light novel edition has been a long time coming. The light novels themselves began in July 2020 with illustrations by Riko Korie, with the ninth volume shipping on June 2.

The premise follows Ray White, an ordinary-looking klutz enrolling at the elite Arnold Academy of Magic — who supposedly has nothing to do with the rumor that one of the world’s great magicians, the Iceblade Sorcerer, is among the incoming class.

A Franchise That Keeps Growing

While the novels approach their finale, the wider franchise shows no signs of slowing down. Norihito Sasaki’s manga adaptation ended in January 2024 after 16 volumes, but a sequel manga — Hyōken no Majutsushi ga Sekai wo Suberu II, illustrated by Nao Kagami — launched on May 27 and shipped its first volume on October 8.

The television anime adaptation premiered in January 2023 on Crunchyroll, and its second season premiered October 8, currently streaming as it airs. It looks like Ray White’s story will end on paper just as it hits its stride on screen.
