Battlestar Galactica: The Board Game (Credits: IGN / Fantasy Flight Games)
One of board gaming’s most hunted “Holy Grails” is officially coming back. Ghost Galaxy has entered into an agreement with Universal and Fantasy Flight Games to publish a brand-new edition of Battlestar Galactica: The Board Game, heading to crowdfunding early next year.
First released in 2008 with imagery from the Sci-Fi Channel reboot, the original is a social deduction and hidden-traitor game that captured the show’s paranoia perfectly — anyone could be a secret Cylon trying to stop humanity’s single mission: getting home. It spawned three expansions before going out of print almost a decade ago, and today a full set (base game plus expansions) can cost more than $1,000 on the secondary market. The game has sat on “Holy Grail” hunting lists — out-of-print, expensive, beloved — for years.
What We Know About the Battlestar Galactica Board Game New Edition
Details are scant so far: it’s officially a “new edition” with an “updated design,” whatever that turns out to mean. But it’s in safe hands — overseeing the project is Christian T. Peterson, Ghost Galaxy’s CEO, former founder and CEO of Fantasy Flight Games, and the creator of Twilight Imperium.
Fans may recall that FFG released a sort-of reskin of BSG in 2021 with Unfathomable, swapping the Galactica for a boat and the Cylons for Lovecraftian horrors. It found success on its own, but it wasn’t the real thing. This new edition marks the first true return of the original game in nearly a decade, and whether it joins FFG’s Vault Series alongside Arkham Horror Remastered remains to be seen.
