Netflix's The Blue Road Trailer: Son Suk Ku and Nagayama Eita Team Up to Catch a Serial Killer

Netflix just gave crime-thriller fans their next obsession. The streaming giant has dropped the teaser trailer for “The Blue Road”, its upcoming Korea-Japan detective drama starring Son Suk Ku and Nagayama Eita as two detectives forced to team up against a serial killer crossing national borders.

Helmed by Han Jun Hee, the director behind Netflix’s acclaimed military drama “D.P.” and the film “Coin Locker Girl,” “The Blue Road” follows two detectives tracking a string of murders that span Korea and Japan. Son Suk Ku plays Kim Seok, a detective from the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, while Nagayama Eita plays Inose, a detective from the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department. The two men have contrasting personalities and investigative styles, and the case drags them together whether they like it or not.

The Blue Road Trailer Sets Up a Cross-Border Manhunt

The teaser opens with Kim Seok standing in a crowd when news of a murder in Shinjuku breaks. As Inose arrives at the crime scene, Kim Seok notes in voice-over that a similar murder recently took place in Korea — the moment the investigation goes international.

Once it becomes clear the serial murder case has crossed borders, Kim Seok declares the suspect has been identified as Japanese, and the tension between the two detectives spikes. There is also a tantalizing tease involving Ri Yoon Ok, played by Kim Shin Rok, who cryptically asks someone: “An eyewitness. Don’t you want to know [who it is]?”

The teaser closes on the line that sets the tone for the whole series: Kim Seok telling Inose, “We’re catching [the killer] together.”

Why Han Jun Hee’s Return Is a Big Deal

Han Jun Hee’s involvement is the strongest selling point here. “D.P.” was one of Netflix’s most critically respected Korean originals, and his gritty, grounded style is a perfect fit for a procedural about a killer slipping between two countries. The Korea-Japan premise also taps into a storytelling territory mainstream K-dramas rarely explore, giving the series a built-in freshness beyond the cast.

Casting-wise, Son Suk Ku is coming off a career-high run that made him one of the most in-demand actors in Korea, while Nagayama Eita brings serious acting pedigree from Japan. Their clash of styles — and, presumably, languages — should give the cat-and-mouse investigation its spark.

Netflix has not yet announced a premiere date for “The Blue Road,” so fans will have to keep refreshing their watchlists. But with this teaser, it just jumped to the top of ours.
