MBC has dropped a new glimpse at Yoo Yeon Seok in “The Perfect Lie,” and the character couldn’t be more intriguing. He plays Min Joon Ho — a warm, devoted father one moment and a cold, sharp-eyed surgeon the next — in a psychological thriller built around two people who remember the same incident in completely opposite ways.

“The Perfect Lie” is a psychological thriller in which a man and a woman offer completely opposite accounts of the same memory, clashing fiercely in their search for the truth. The drama marks the reunion of Yoo Yeon Seok and Seo Hyun Jin, who starred together in the hit series “Dr. Romantic” 10 years ago.
A Perfect Father — or a Perfect Liar?
Yoo Yeon Seok plays Min Joon Ho, a talented cardiac surgeon who is also a devoted father raising his son alone. At the hospital, he is held in high esteem for his surgical abilities; at home, he is the caring dad. When he first meets Kang Ji Sun (Seo Hyun Jin), he makes her heart flutter for the first time in years — but things quickly go south, and the two lock into a bitter fight with opposing claims about the same incident.
The new stills capture Min Joon Ho’s two faces: warm and friendly in conversation, sharp and cold the moment he picks up a scalpel in the operating room. The production team admits a “perfect character with no flaws” is harder to portray — and praised Yoo Yeon Seok as “‘perfect man Min Joon Ho’ in the flesh” on set. That flawless exterior, they tease, will “ceaselessly confuse viewers as they attempt to figure out which of the two leads is the true liar.”
The Perfect Lie Premiere Date
“The Perfect Lie” premieres October 30 at 9:50 p.m. KST on MBC, directed by Jo Young Min of “You and Everything Else.” With a reunion a decade in the making and a mystery built on dueling memories, this is one of the fall season’s most promising K-dramas.
