Joe Hendry has not closed the door on turning heel in WWE. Speaking to the Michael Fairman Channel, the former TNA star said “never say never” when asked about a potential villainous turn, adding that “anything can happen in the WWE.”

Joe Hendry on a potential WWE heel turn
Hendry has been a fan favorite for the last several years, a run that has carried him through TNA, NXT and now the WWE main roster. His entrance theme and crowd singalongs have made him one of the most organically popular acts in the company, and that popularity followed him from his time in TNA, where he became a breakout star.
But Hendry pointed out that his current character was not originally built to be loved. “I originally, this is the character that I’ve designed and the person that I’m portraying was designed to be hated and people just happened to like it,” he explained. That history makes a heel turn a genuine possibility rather than a fantasy booking idea: the arrogant, self-promoting elements of the character are already baked in.
In the past, Hendry’s character has leaned heel at times, particularly through his diss tracks aimed at rivals. Those tracks, which helped him go viral long before his WWE arrival, showed a sharper edge that a heel run could bring back to the surface. A turn would also give WWE a fresh direction for a performer whose babyface act, while popular, risks going stale if it never evolves.
Could Joe Hendry become a top draw in WWE?
In a separate recent interview, Hendry spoke about believing in his heart that he can be a top draw in WWE. Whether that happens as a hero or a villain remains to be seen, but his comments suggest he is thinking about the long game. In WWE, the biggest stars are often the ones willing to reinvent themselves, and Hendry’s openness to a heel turn shows he understands that.
For now, fans can keep singing along. But if Hendry ever does flip, do not say he did not warn you.
