Aniplex has officially pulled back the curtain on the King’s Proposal anime, confirming a 2027 premiere, its lead voice star, and a brand-new teaser visual for the fantasy light novel adaptation.

Rie Takahashi will star as Saika Kuozaki, described as the most powerful mage in the world. The announcement landed on Sunday alongside the teaser visual, giving fans their first official look at the anime take on author Koushi Tachibana and illustrator Tsunako’s light novel series, known in Japan as Ōsama no Propose.
King’s Proposal Anime Plot: A Witch’s Power Passed to an Ordinary Boy
At the heart of the story is Saika Kuozaki, an all-powerful witch who stands as the only person capable of stopping the mysterious entities that try to destroy the world once every 300 hours. When Saika is mortally wounded, she passes both her powers and her body to an ordinary high school boy who happens to find her: Mushiki Kuga.
The catch is that having Saika’s abilities is not the same as controlling them. To stand any chance of saving the world, Mushiki must attend an academy for mages while living as Saika — all while keeping his true identity hidden. It is a high-concept setup that blends action, fantasy, and identity-swap comedy, and it comes from the same creative team behind the long-running hit Date A Live.
King’s Proposal Light Novel and Manga History
Tachibana launched the King’s Proposal light novel series in 2021. Kadokawa released the eighth novel volume in Japan in August 2025, with the ninth volume set to ship on December 18. Yen Press is releasing the series in English and put out the eighth volume on October 13.
A manga adaptation by Nemo Kurio launched on Gangan Online in February 2023, with Square Enix releasing the sixth and final volume in March 2025. Meanwhile, the Date A Live franchise itself continues to grow, with the concluding film Date A Live F Last Date set to open on March 26, 2027 — meaning fans of Tachibana and Tsunako have two major projects to look forward to in the same year.
With a 2027 debut now locked in, more casting and staff announcements for King’s Proposal are expected to follow in the coming months. For now, the teaser visual and Takahashi’s casting give the adaptation a strong starting point.
