Epsilon Film Boards Animated Movie 'Apple Cadabra – I Shrunk Myself' Based on Petronella Applesauce

Epsilon Film has acquired worldwide rights to “Apple Cadabra – I Shrunk Myself,” an animated family adventure based on “Petronella Applesauce,” one of Germany’s most successful children’s book series. The company will launch international sales at the American Film Market, running November 10-15 in Los Angeles.

The film centers on two children who are magically shrunk into a miniature world, landing them in the enchanted garden of Petronella, the beloved witch at the heart of the books. What follows is a journey through a tiny world seen from a brand-new perspective, where everyday garden details become grand adventures.

Apple Cadabra – I Shrunk Myself: Story and Team

Blending fantasy, humor, suspense and adventure, the film tells an emotional story about empathy and overcoming prejudice, according to Epsilon Film. Managing director Alice von Einem said what captured the team’s imagination was the idea of two children suddenly finding themselves shrunk into Petronella’s garden, experiencing an entirely new world from a tiny perspective — a premise she described as combining a highly commercial adventure with universal themes of friendship, courage and belonging.

The film is directed by Ute von Münchow-Pohl and Felix Schichl, with a screenplay by Claudio Winter and Seraina Nyikos. Character design comes from Oliver Kurth, while producers Dirk Beinhold and Valentin Greulich are producing for Akkord Film, the animation studio behind “The Elfkins” and “Rabbit Academy” — the same team behind this new feature.

When Buyers Will See Apple Cadabra Footage

Buyers at the American Film Market will get a first look at footage from the movie, as Epsilon Film kicks off its international sales push. Co-production partners include Seru Animation, PFX, VAST and JewelLabs Pictures, while Tobis Film will distribute the film widely in German theaters.

With a proven literary franchise, a veteran animation team and a classic shrinking premise, Apple Cadabra – I Shrunk Myself is positioning itself as a family event film with international appeal.
