The cast of the 2026 Street Fighter movie reportedly signed on for three films, a detail that suddenly makes the movie’s cliffhanger ending make a lot more sense. The revelation came not from a studio announcement, but from a cast member replying to a fan online.

Olivier Richters, the 7-foot-2 actor who played Zangief, revealed the three-film deal in a YouTube comment on October 25. He was responding to a fan video complaining that viewers did not get to see very much of the Red Cyclone in the film, and he confirmed that the brief appearance was deliberate.
Street Fighter movie cast signed for three films, says Zangief actor
According to Richters, when he was asked to play Zangief, the plan was clear from the start: show only a glimpse of the character, so audiences would be extra eager to see more of him and his invincible iron body in a sequel. “If a sequel is made, Zangief will shine,” was the promise he described.
That approach reframes the film’s ending. What looked like an underused fan-favourite character now reads as a deliberate setup, with bigger roles held back for future instalments. If the whole cast is indeed locked in for three films, the franchise has room to expand its roster gradually rather than cramming every fighter into one movie.
Whether those sequels actually happen will depend on box office and studio appetite, but the cast deals suggest the filmmakers were planning a trilogy from the beginning. For now, Zangief fans have a reason to be patient: the Red Cyclone’s moment may still be coming.
