Dallas-based investment firm Disruptive has announced a massive $10 billion fund to back at least 10 late-stage companies, with checks of up to $1 billion each. It is one of the biggest fundraises of the year so far — and a clear bet on the capital-hungry worlds of AI and defense.

Disruptive $10 Billion Fund Targets AI and Defense
Disruptive, whose past bets include Palantir, Airbnb and Spotify, said Tuesday it will deploy the new fund across at least 10 companies. The Wall Street Journal had first reported earlier this month that the firm was seeking to raise the fund and had already secured at least $7.5 billion in capital commitments by then.
The firm was founded in 2012 by Alex Davis, grandson of billionaire oil magnate Marvin Davis. According to the Dallas Business Journal, the new vehicle is the largest venture fund raised in Texas history.
A First Blind-Pool Fund After Years of Deal-by-Deal Bets
This is technically Disruptive’s first blind-pool fund, meaning investors commit money without knowing in advance which companies it will back. Until now, the firm raised money through deal-by-deal special purpose vehicles.
Even so, Disruptive has made headlines in recent years for pouring money into companies like chip startup Groq and the AI voice-generation startup ElevenLabs. Bloomberg reported that the firm told its limited partners it has returned more than $6 billion on the roughly $1.9 billion it has put into startups — a track record that helps explain why investors were willing to commit at this scale.
With AI infrastructure, models and defense technology all demanding enormous capital, a $10 billion war chest positions Disruptive to write some of the largest checks in venture capital — and to shape which companies get to scale next.
