Eito Chida is launching a brand-new manga series titled Hoshibarai no Chidori, with the debut set for November 20 in Square Enix’s Gangan Joker magazine. The announcement came in the magazine’s November issue, giving fans of Chida’s work a new series to look forward to.

What Is Hoshibarai no Chidori About?
The battle fantasy manga follows a boy named Chidori who wants to shine, and another boy named Shin who believes his brilliance makes him a hero. Together, the pair face star spirits, mysterious beings who devour wishes.
The premise pairs an underdog who longs to stand out with a confident counterpart who already believes he is destined for greatness, setting up a dynamic that should drive both the action and the character drama. The star spirits, creatures that feed on wishes, give the series a fantastical hook that fits right into Gangan Joker‘s lineup.
Eito Chida’s Previous Work
Chida is best known for the manga adaptation of Bottom-Tier Character Tomozaki, which ended with its sixth compiled volume in April 2021. Comikey publishes that series in English digitally. The Tomozaki anime first premiered in January 2021, with Funimation streaming it as it aired in Japan along with an English dub, and a second television season followed in January 2024, with Crunchyroll streaming a dub.
Chida also previously adapted P.A. Works’ Hanasaku Iroha franchise into manga, ending that run in September 2012, with Square Enix shipping the fifth and final volume in December 2012.
With Hoshibarai no Chidori, Chida moves from adapting existing stories to an original battle fantasy of his own. Fans will get their first look when the series launches on November 20, and early reactions to the premise suggest it could be one of the more intriguing new manga debuts of the season.
