Mobile Suit Gundam Battle Operation 3 Announced for PS5 and PC as Free-to-Play Team Combat Game

Bandai Namco Entertainment has announced Mobile Suit Gundam Battle Operation 3 for PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam, revealing the new game during the Gundam Games 40th Anniversary livestream. A trailer previewing the gameplay was unveiled alongside the announcement.

Mobile Suit Gundam Battle Operation 3 will be a free-to-play team combat game, continuing a series built around squad-based Mobile Suit battles. The new entry promises a broader roster than before, drawing units from multiple Gundam series.

That roster will start with machines from the Universal Century universe and Mobile Suit Gundam Seed, giving both long-time fans and newer viewers familiar suits to take into battle. Every unit will also have SP Skills, adding a special-ability layer to the team fights.

Mobile Suit Gundam Battle Operation 3 New Features: Battle Assist and Cross-Play

Two other additions stand out in the announcement. A new Battle Assist feature is coming to the game, alongside a new user interface designed to make the experience smoother for players jumping in or returning after time away.

Cross-play between systems is also confirmed, so PS5 and PC players will be able to battle together rather than being split by platform. For a team-based game, that is a meaningful change, since it should keep matches fuller and squads easier to form across platforms.

How Mobile Suit Gundam Battle Operation 3 Follows Battle Operation 2

The announcement builds on a long-running line. Mobile Suit Gundam: Battle Operation 2 launched as a free-to-play title on PlayStation 4 in Japan in July 2018, before arriving in English digitally in October 2019. It later came to PS5 in January 2021 and to PC via Steam in May 2023.

Battle Operation 3 therefore arrives with an established audience already in place, and its free-to-play model lowers the barrier for curious Gundam fans who want to try the team combat formula without buying in first. A release date has not been announced yet, so fans will be watching for the next update from Bandai Namco.

Separately, the franchise also has Gundam Rogue Orbit on the way, set to launch for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam on March 5, 2027. Between that title and Battle Operation 3, Gundam players have plenty to look forward to over the next stretch.
