Netflix’s The Blue Road: Son Suk Ku and Nagayama Eita’s Clashing Detectives Hunt Killers Across Korea and Japan

Netflix’s upcoming series “The Blue Road” has unveiled new character stills spotlighting its two leads — Son Suk Ku and Nagayama Eita — as detectives whose clashing styles complicate their partnership. The Korea-Japan crime drama follows two detectives tracking a string of murders across both countries.

The Blue Road: Son Suk Ku’s Ice-Cold Detective vs Nagayama Eita’s Explosive Cop

Directed by Han Jun Hee of the hit “D.P.” series and the film “Coin Locker Girl,” the drama casts Son Suk Ku as Kim Seok, a detective with the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency. Kim Seok is relentless, refusing to back down even when his superiors order him to — or when the case crosses national borders. In the stills, he examines a firearm with a cool, emotionless gaze.

Son Suk Ku described his character as someone who “seems unshakable on the outside, but he suffers because of the turmoil within him and tries to overcome it.”

Nagayama Eita plays Inose, a detective with the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department, and he is Kim Seok’s opposite in almost every way. Inose tackles cases head-on with rougher, more explosive energy — one still shows him subduing a suspect in a Tokyo alley as bystanders applaud. Nagayama called him “more passionate than anyone when it comes to a case,” confronting challenges until the very end with fierce determination to catch the culprit.

Collaboration and Conflict Across Korea and Japan

As the two detectives pursue the truth behind murders spanning Korea and Japan, their partnership becomes a volatile mix of collaboration and conflict — a classic odd-couple dynamic supercharged by language, jurisdiction, and temperament.

With Han Jun Hee’s gritty track record and two powerhouse leads playing off each other, The Blue Road is shaping up as one of Netflix’s most promising upcoming K-J dramas. A premiere date has yet to be announced, but the character stills suggest filming is well underway.
