Final Fantasy XIV: Evercold has been delayed. The MMORPG’s next expansion was originally set to launch in January 2027, but director and producer Naoki Yoshida announced at FFXIV Fan Fest in Japan that the new release date is February 23, 2027, with early access starting February 19, 2027 — only a four-week delay.

FFXIV Evercold Trailer Debuts and Version 8.0 Changes Revealed
The announcement came alongside the third and final teaser trailer — the full opening cinematic for Evercold — which kicked off the Fan Fest keynote. Yoshida laid out where the ongoing story is headed and detailed fundamental gameplay changes coming as FFXIV goes into version 8.0 with Evercold’s launch.
Warriors of Light also got a first glimpse of the second new Job joining the expansion: Zephyr, a ranged DPS that wields a crossbow and commands an avian companion for support. It joins the previously revealed new Tank Job, Bastion.
Evangelion and Final Fantasy VII Crossover Raids Coming to Evercold
Evercold is stacking its content slate high. Beyond the new world and main story, the expansion will feature a Neon Genesis Evangelion crossover raid series and a Final Fantasy VII crossover raid series — a dream lineup for fans of Square Enix’s biggest crossovers.
Pre-orders for Evercold open November 4, 2026, with bonus items to be revealed during the Fan Fest keynote. A four-week delay is modest by MMO expansion standards, and with version 8.0’s gameplay overhaul on the horizon, the extra time is likely to be worth the wait for Warriors of Light.
