If Samsung Replaces One UI With Galaxy OS, These Are The Fixes It Needs First

The next version of Samsung’s software — One UI 10 — could be a big one. Rumors suggest it might arrive with a brand new name: Galaxy OS. It would not be Samsung’s first rebrand (TouchWiz from 2008 to 2017, then Samsung Experience for a year, then One UI in 2018), but the name change would only matter if the software underneath actually changes.

Here are the problems a Galaxy OS needs to fix, according to How-To Geek’s Joe Fedewa.

Galaxy OS Must Finally Retire Bixby

Bixby has been around longer than Gemini, Siri, ChatGPT, Claude and Copilot — and yet most Galaxy owners only discover it by accident. When you get a new Galaxy phone, long-pressing the power button still brings up Bixby, as it has for nearly a decade. Meanwhile, Samsung’s own AI features are branded under Galaxy AI, which tells you where the company’s priorities actually are.

For a rebranded Galaxy OS, keeping Bixby as the default long-press action makes no sense. Google and Gemini are the assistants people associate with Android, and Samsung should stop pretending otherwise.

Stop The Bloatware And Fix The Split Notification Shade

Pre-installing Bixby plus several other stock apps alongside Google’s equivalents makes Galaxy phones feel bloated and spammy. A fresh start under the Galaxy OS name is the perfect excuse to clean house and make Samsung’s defaults removable.

And then there is the notification shade. Recent One UI versions copied the iPhone: instead of a unified panel with notifications and Quick Settings together, swiping the left side shows notifications and the right side shows Quick Settings — exactly like Apple’s Notification Center and Control Center. Android already has a better answer: a two-finger swipe expands Quick Settings from a single shade. It is a change for the sake of change, and Galaxy OS should undo it.

The rumors are thin right now, but one thing is clear: calling it Galaxy OS will only impress anyone if it actually fixes the things Galaxy owners complain about.
