Manchester United have enquired about Barcelona attacking midfielder Fermin Lopez as a potential replacement for captain Bruno Fernandes, according to transfer journalist Matteo Moretto. But Barcelona are already shutting the door.
Moretto, speaking on Radio Marca, claimed United have enquired about both Fermin and Atletico Madrid midfielder Pablo Barrios — stressing it is an enquiry, not a negotiation. Fermin, 23, is under contract at Camp Nou until 2031, with 37 goals and 32 assists in 148 matches.

Fermin Lopez Transfer Fee: What Barcelona Want
Reports put Barcelona’s asking price at around £84 million, with one report suggesting the Catalans would need at least €100m before considering a sale. Fermin is considered crucial by Barca’s sporting director Deco, who views him as key to the club’s present and future. Chelsea and PSG have also been linked with the Spain international.
Romano: Fermin Lopez Is “Absolutely Untouchable”
Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano poured cold water on the story on October 31: “Despite reports over recent days, Fermin Lopez is absolutely untouchable for Barcelona.” Romano added that the player is very happy at the club, recently signed a new deal, and is 100 per cent staying.
As for Fernandes: the 32-year-old captain is out of contract at the end of the season, though United hold a club option to extend until June 2028. Recent reports have questioned his form and future, but coach Michael Carrick has insisted Fernandes stays captain. For now, this one looks like a long shot.
