Shin Sae Kyeong threats case: appeal dismissed, prison term upheld
The court of first instance had sentenced the defendant to eight months in prison in July of last year. The defendant appealed the ruling, but on October 22, the appellate court dismissed the appeal and upheld the original sentence. The defendant was taken into custody immediately following the ruling.
The agency said the outcome came through “ongoing monitoring, systematic collection of evidence, and consistent, strategic legal action,” and thanked fans who provided information and support throughout the process.
Agencies continue cracking down on cybercrime against idols
“Online anonymity does not exempt anyone from legal responsibility for unlawful acts,” THE PRESENT COMPANY stated. “Depending on their content and the nature of the violation, malicious online posts may result in criminal liability.”
The agency vowed to “continue to take firm action against any unlawful acts that infringe upon the rights and interests of our artists, and will pursue legal accountability to the very end” — adding another win to the K-pop industry’s ongoing crackdown on malicious online behavior.
