Voltage has joined forces with Toei Animation to develop a brand-new otome game, Kakan Ruirui: The Caged Lantern of Yomi, with a digital release set for Nintendo Switch in 2027. The game will be released under Voltage’s console label AmuLit.

The Japanese-inspired dark fantasy title opens with the tagline “It all begins with a life lost.” It will support both Japanese and English languages at launch.

Kakan Ruirui Staff: Yone Kazuki Illustrations and All-Star Team

The staff lineup reads like an otome dream team. Character illustrations come from Yone Kazuki of Hakuōki fame, while Ririka Yoshimura (Neon Clash -Echoes of the Lost-, Cupid Parasite) writes the scenario. Background art is handled by Naohiro Yūki (Arknights: RISE FROM EMBER), the soundtrack is composed by Yamato of Heart Company, and Arika will perform the theme song. Yoshimura and Voltage’s Rei Misaki direct, with producers including Satoshi Nohara, Hiroaki Shibata and Honoka Kishi.

Kakan Ruirui Teaser Video Debuts at AGF 2026 This Weekend

Fans won’t have to wait long for a first look. The first teaser video premieres at the Animate Girls Festival 2026 in Ikebukuro on November 7 and 8, with booth visitors receiving a character booklet and a large promotional shopping bag. AmuLit will also reveal the main characters on November 7 at 12:00 p.m. JST.

The game joins AmuLit’s growing library, which includes even if TEMPEST, The Red Bell’s Lament and sins of KALEIDO. With Toei Animation’s production muscle behind it, Kakan Ruirui could be the label’s biggest release yet.
