Best Buy is discounting open-box Asus ROG Xbox Ally X handheld gaming PCs to as little as $789.99 for “Fair Condition” units — and per IGN, there may not be a better price even on Black Friday itself. (Credits: Asus via IGN)
The sweet spot in the deal is the “Excellent Condition” unit at $849.99, down from $999.99 — a $150 saving. These are Geek Squad verified preowned units with a 15-day return policy, and the excellent-condition models are in like-new shape both functionally and cosmetically, with very low usage time and possibly most of their original warranty.
Xbox Ally X: AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme Handheld Specs
The Ally X packs the AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme processor, 24GB of LPDDR5X RAM and a 1TB SSD with a 7″ 120Hz display, running Windows with Xbox integration — powerful enough to run the latest AAA PC games. IGN’s review called it “easily the best handheld gaming PC available,” and IGN’s Jackie Thomas even recommends it over the Steam Deck.
Worth knowing: the handheld was recently superseded by the Xbox Ally X20, though performance between the two is identical. Since the nomenclature can be confusing, remember the Xbox Ally X is really an evolution of the Asus ROG Ally X rather than an actual Xbox console — and you can even install SteamOS on it if Windows isn’t your thing.
