Cipher Digital — the bitcoin miner pivoting to AI data centers — reported a $31.6 million quarterly profit even as revenue fell 63%, according to its November 2, 2026 SEC filing reported by CoinDesk. But the headline profit comes with a big asterisk: most of it is an accounting gain, not mining income.

Quarterly revenue dropped to $26.7 million from $71.7 million a year earlier, missing the roughly $38 million analyst estimate. Bitcoin mining contributed just $20.8 million, down 71%, as Cipher deliberately moved computing capacity away from mining and toward leasing data centers to artificial intelligence companies.
Cipher Q3 2026: first AI data center revenue arrives
The quarter did mark a milestone: Cipher generated its first $5.9 million in data center (HPC) revenue after rental payments began at its Black Pearl facility in Texas, which stopped mining bitcoin back in February. The company also extended its Barber Lake data center lease to 20 years, bringing contracted revenue at that site to roughly $9.1 billion — with total contracted revenue across three campuses at about $16.6 billion.
However, the operating loss widened to $71.9 million (from $37.6 million a year earlier), and adjusted EBITDA swung to a $10 million loss. The reported $31.6 million net profit was driven largely by a $127.2 million non-cash gain from revaluing warrants issued to Google, which is backstopping lease payments from AI infrastructure company Fluidstack.
What the numbers really say
Shares slipped after the results, per market coverage. Cipher’s CEO Tyler Page told investors the company runs a long-term colocation model — turnkey data center capacity that tenants fit out themselves — rather than renting out direct chip access like so-called neoclouds.
The quarter captures a company mid-transition: bitcoin mining, once its entire business, is shrinking fast, while the AI hosting operation is only just beginning to contribute.
