Boy Arrested Over Bradley Lowery Taunt at Coventry vs Sunderland
The incident took place at Saturday’s Premier League match at Coventry between Coventry City and Sunderland. The teenager handed himself in to West Midlands Police, who confirmed he has been bailed while their investigation continues.
Bradley, a Sunderland fan who died aged six in 2017 after being diagnosed with a rare childhood cancer, captured the hearts of the football world during his short life.
“Beautiful Boy Deserves to Be Remembered With Love, Not Hate”
Bradley’s mother Gemma issued an emotional statement on Instagram: “So much of Bradley’s short life was spent battling cancer and enduring treatments no child should ever face. To see such a beautiful memory used in such a cruel way really does make my heart hurt.”
Writing through the Bradley Lowery Foundation — which raises funds and awareness to help children with cancer — she added that her son “deserves to be remembered with love, not hate,” and that she did not want hatred directed at the teenager involved but wanted him to learn from his actions.
Coventry City said the club “does not tolerate offensive behaviour” and will liaise with the relevant authorities. West Midlands Police said they understood the upset the video had caused and were keeping Bradley’s family updated.
