Jon Stewart Roasts Haley Stevens’ Mike Rogers Endorsement
Stewart spent much of the segment trying to trace how Stevens’ change of heart could have happened, given that she’d been “very clear” about her and El-Sayed’s “shared goal” of defeating Rogers. The host then cut to news clips of Stevens herself opposing Rogers — including one where she said, “Mike Rogers has shown that he’s just going to go along with whatever Donald Trump does,” and called Rogers “a nightmare” on his tariff stances hurting Michigan’s auto industry.
The endorsement came in the final hours before election day, making Stevens’ reversal a target too good for Stewart to pass up. The segment was classic Daily Show Stewart: take a political about-face, stack it against the politician’s own past words, and let the contradiction do the talking.
Stevens’ Last-Minute Switch Adds Fuel to Michigan Senate Race
Stevens’ endorsement of Rogers over El-Sayed adds another wrinkle to a hard-fought Michigan Senate contest decided Tuesday. Stewart framed the 11th-hour flip as exactly the kind of political maneuver that late-night comedy exists to puncture — and he didn’t hold back.
