Chet Holmgren will miss 8 to 10 weeks after undergoing a knee procedure Friday, the Oklahoma City Thunder announced — the latest devastating blow to the defending champions’ season.

Chet Holmgren Knee Injury: Patellar Tendon Tear Timeline
The Thunder said Holmgren experienced mild discomfort in his right knee on October 25 after the team’s win over the Suns. After consultations with specialists, doctors determined the need for a biological treatment to address a small patellar tendon tear — performed Friday and described as successful.
A league source told NBC Sports the treatment was likely platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy, a route that lets Holmgren avoid more invasive surgery. The team expects a full recovery with a return to play in 8 to 10 weeks, which would put him back in the first couple of weeks of 2027.
Thunder Injury Crisis: Williams, Wallace Also Out
The timing could hardly be worse. The Thunder are already without All-NBA wing Jalen Williams (ankle/fibula) and defensive ace Cason Wallace (labral tear in his left shoulder) for extended stretches, while Alex Caruso is sidelined with an ankle sprain — leaving the team without its top four defenders.
Before the injury, Holmgren had endured a slow offensive start — 12.0 points per game, a career low — but was still posting 9.3 rebounds and 3.0 blocks through three games. Isaiah Hartenstein has filled in admirably with three straight double-doubles, and Kenrich Williams should remain in the starting lineup for the foreseeable future.
