Back-to-Back 60-Yard Field Goals Rock Bloomington
The kicking highlight of the day came in Bloomington, where Minnesota’s Luke Drzewiecki nailed a career-long 60-yard field goal, only for Indiana’s Paddy McAteer to match it with a 60-yarder of his own to send the game to overtime. Add in a 54-yarder from USC and a 53-yarder from Missouri, and it was quite a day for the #collegekickers hashtag — in a serious way.
Miami, Utah and UCLA Stay Unbeaten in Week 9
Top-ranked Miami needed every bit of its nerve in a 38-35 escape at North Carolina. The Hurricanes, last year’s national runners-up, survived another ulcer-inducing afternoon, with Marquise Lightfoot’s fourth-quarter sack forcing a fumble that Miami turned into the go-ahead touchdown.
Utah had no such trouble, blasting past Cincinnati 49-25, while UCLA kept rolling with a dominant 27-0 shutout of Nevada at the Rose Bowl. Behind backup quarterback Ty Dieffenbach, the Bruins’ defense held Nevada to just 176 total yards.
The biggest upset belonged to USC, whose 30-18 win over No. 2 Ohio State gave Lincoln Riley his signature victory — it is only the second time in college football history that an AP top-two team has lost to an unranked opponent in four straight weeks.
