Speaking with Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp, Maclin opened up about his five-year run in TNA after joining the promotion in June 2021 following his WWE release on June 7, 2026. The former TNA World Champion and two-time TNA International Champion reflected on making the most of every opportunity across three different management regimes.
“I took advantage of every top opportunity that was given to me and tried to knock it out of the park,” Maclin said, adding that he became the first-ever TNA International Champion and pitched creative ideas throughout his run. “For me, I love being hated just because it’s a lot more fun. I can get under people’s skin.”
Steve Maclin vs Josh Alexander: A Best-Friend War for Canadian Gold
When asked about dream matches in MLW and Maple Leaf Pro, Maclin immediately named Josh Alexander.
“First that comes to mind is Josh Alexander. I love to go out there and have a war with my best friend,” Maclin said. “I know he wouldn’t hold anything back and I wouldn’t hold anything back because we know what’s on the line — the Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling Heavyweight Championship, which is the most prestigious Canadian championship that there is.”
Maclin admitted that taking the title from Alexander would mean extra: “I know how much that means to Josh, and I also know how much that would mean to take that off of Josh, being an American, taking it off of a Canadian that way would be a hell of a matchup.”

With Alexander aligned with AEW’s Don Callis Family, Maclin teased that fans think he could be headed that way too — but said “you never know what could happen. The possibilities are endless.”
Maclin also praised MLP’s Northern Rising card, saying the event was “stacked from top to bottom” and that following the Stu Grayson vs. Josh Alexander match only made him want to “go to work.” A two-part documentary on Maclin’s journey to Northern Rising is available on the Boots To Boots YouTube channel.
