Glen Powell Says He Doesn’t Talk Politics: ‘My Calling Is Elsewhere’
Glen Powell isn’t interested in discussing politics.
In a new Esquire cover story, The Running Man actor said that despite his mother Cyndy Powell’s work in the U. S. Treasury Department under the Reagan administration, current events never made its way into his family’s dinner-table conversations. “Thank God,” he said.
The actor said “over time” he has “realized that politics divide people. People trying to prove their point — for me, it’s the worst version of a conversation. I genuinely do not like the discourse. It’s not as healthy as it once was.”
Powell said that engaging in political conversations was “not presently possible.” He added, “I applaud people for jumping into those things and fighting for what they believe in. If I were a political person, I would be talking about it. For me, my calling is elsewhere.”
The Top Gun: Maverick is not the only celebrity asserting their disinterest in speaking about politics. Powell’s Anyone But You co-star Sydney Sweeney said she has “never been here to talk about politics” in a cover interview with Cosmopolitan in January following the fallout from her viral American Eagle jeans ad.
Sweeney also said she doesn’t anticipate she will confirm her political beliefs: “I’m not a political person. I’m in the arts. I’m not here to speak on politics. That’s not an area I’ve ever even imagined getting into. It’s not why I became who I am. I became an actor because I like to tell stories, but I don’t believe in hate in any form. I believe we should all love each other and have respect and understanding for one another.”
Last November, Jennifer Lawrence questioned if she should speak out against Trump after being vocal about her political stance during his first term.
“I don’t really know if I should,” Lawrence told The New York Times on its The Interview podcast about speaking out against Trump and politics. “During the first Trump administration, I felt like I was running around like a chicken with my head cut off. But as we’ve learned, election after election, celebrities do not make a difference whatsoever on who people vote for. So then what am I doing? I’m just sharing my opinion on something that’s going to add fuel to a fire that’s ripping the country apart. We are so divided.”
Elsewhere in the profile, Powell addressed The Running Man‘s weak box office performance. “They let go of an entire marketing department a month before our movie came out in the middle of a merger,” he said of Paramount, the studio behind the film.
The Running Man released on Nov. 14, 2025; on Oct. 29, The Hollywood Reporter reported that Paramount began series of staff cuts, resulting in about 1,000 jobs being impacted.
THR reached out to Paramount for comment, but did not hear back by the time of publication.

Sebastian Stan is reprising his role as Bucky Barnes, the Winter Soldier, in Avengers: Doomsday and is teasing that the film will be “heartbreaking.”
Marvel fans are already bracing for the worst, and Stan’s recent interview while promoting Fjord has them guessing that someone will die.
“I haven’t seen the movie, and I don’t know how it turned out,” Stand told Decider. “I’m sure it’s going to be probably heartbreaking, in a lot of ways. We’ll see who makes it to the next level.”
As for filming Avengers: Doomsday, Stan said he “got a chance to reunite with everyone,” including Chris Evans, adding, “It was very nostalgic to look back, and think about all of these years that we’ve known each other, and grew up together. It’s incredible in that way. It’s been a family and it never stops being that way.”

In a recent interview, the Russo Brothers said they started filming Avengers: Doomsday without a finished script.
“We’re improvisation-based, rehearsal-based directors,” Joe Russo told AP. “We like to see what the actors bring to the characters, and sometimes you don’t get the actors until a few days or few weeks before you shoot them. And a lot of the time, that’s when the magic happens.”

Frank G. Mancuso Sr. Dead: Former Head Of Paramount Pictures & MGM Was 93
Frank G. Mancuso, Sr., the former film studio executive who headed both Paramount Pictures and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer during the 1980s and ’90s, overseeing the release of such major box office hits as Top Gun, Fatal Attraction, The Untouchables, Coming to America and Ghost, died of cancer on Thursday, October 1, at his home in Los Angeles. He was 93.
His death was announced by his family, which includes his son, the producer Frank Mancuso, Jr.
Mancuso, whose expertise spanned sales, marketing, and distribution, served as chairman and CEO of Paramount Pictures from 1984 to 1991, when the studio released the above-mentioned films. From 1993 to 1999 he headed MGM as it rebuilt its film and television operations and acquired Orion Pictures and PolyGram Filmed Entertainment.
“When God created Frank Mancuso Sr., he broke the mold,” said Andy Garcia, who landed his Oscar-nominated role in The Godfather III at Mancuso’s suggestion, said in a statement. “This is not just a saying but the absolute truth. Mr. Mancuso will forever be a beacon of class in our industry, the greatest example of warmth, integrity, and generosity. I had the blessing of his friendship, support, and guidance. I will miss him deeply and will continue to be inspired by his example. Rest in peace, ‘Pops.’”
Mancuso joined Paramount Pictures in 1962 as a sales executive in the company’s Buffalo branch, and ascended through the ranks over the next two decades, relocating to Toronto, New York City, and finally Los Angeles. His acumen for promotion, particularly in international markets, helped the commercial success of box-office smashes such as Saturday Night Fever and Raiders of the Lost Ark.
Born Frank George Mancuso on July 25, 1933, in Buffalo, New York, Mancuso worked as an usher for Buffalo’s Lafayette Theater during his high school years, eventually assisting in the venue’s daily operations and programming for live events and screenings.
During his 45-year career as a film exec, Mancuso also served as governor of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (1986) and later as secretary (1992). He was chairman of the Motion Picture and Television Fund corporate board from 2003 to 2010.
His family notes that his affable demeanor earned him the nickname “Gentleman Frank,” and that he knew the names of colleagues at every level, from the mailroom to the executive floor, and fostered a family-like atmosphere at the studios.
Mancuso married Frances (Fay) Susan Mauro, a fellow Buffalo native and childhood sweetheart, in 1957. She survives him, as do his son; daughter Maria Mancuso, a designer; daughter-in-law Kimberly Mancuso; grandchildren Noah Gersh, Emma Louise Ray, Giovanni Mancuso, Greta Harlan Gersh, Mila Rae Mancuso, and James Lily Frances Gersh; grandson-in-law Eric David Ray; and great-granddaughter Lucca Frances Ray.
