No one knew how to grab and hold an audience like the King of Pop, and his masterclass for the 1993 Super Bowl Halftime Show is the stuff of legend. Now it’s getting the documentary treatment.
Hulu and ESPN said Tuesday that their new doc feature Spectacle: Michael Jackson at the Super Bowl will premiere in February on the respective streamer and cable channel.
Jackson was the world’s biggest star when he took the stage at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, and the moment was electric. Spectacle tells the backstory and chronicles the journey to and through his industry-shifting show, featuring never-before-seen footage of Jackson and his team, its legacy and how it catapulted the Super Bowl Halftime show into the single biggest spectacle in pop culture.

The NFL’s title game was coming off a pair of big-name halftime headliners in New Kinds on the Block and Gloria Estefan in 1991 and 1992, but Fox played a counterprogramming card against Estefan’s show, airing an In Living Color special at halftime that swiped some 22 million viewers. The NFL hit back in 1993 with Jackson, whose performance began with him standing still for two full minutes, striking an aloof pose in a black suit crisscrossed by what look like gold bullet-belts.
He followed with songs including “Billie Jean,” “Black or White” and others including “We Are the World,” in which more than 3,000 local kids joined in. It marked the first time the second half of the Super Bowl had more viewers than the first and set the new normal of using the halftime show to attract and hold viewers.
Spectacle: Michael Jackson at the Super Bowl is a Skydance Sports production, in association with Optimum Productions and NFL Films. Bao Nguyen directs and produces the doc. Producers also include Jesse Sisgold, Jon Weinbach and Lauren Gaffney for Skydance Sports; John Branca for Optimum Productions; and Amit Dey for Into the Deep End Films. Executive producers are Karen Langford for Optimum Productions and Ross Ketover, Ken Rodgers, Keith Cossrow and Jessica Boddy for NFL Films.

A major NCIS reunion has been set for this fall.
Mark Harmon and Michael Weatherly‘s franchise characters will meet again after a decade on CBS‘ NCIS: Origins, where Harmon is appearing for a season-long arc. Fans should tune in to the October 20th episode to watch as Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Harmon) returns to NCIS’ D.C. headquarters to enlist the help of new director Tony DiNozzo (Weatherly) after Gibbs was shot by unknown assailants in the Origins Season 3 premiere.
Weatherly’s return to the mothership series was announced back in July, and took place in the Season 24 premiere on October 6.
New episodes of NCIS: Origins air Tuesdays at 10:00 PM ET/PT on CBS and stream on Paramount+.
“When we first see Gibbs in the season premiere, he is still in Alaska with his trusted rescue dog but soon finds that the peace he found there isn’t going to be easy to hold on to. Ghosts from his past are catching up to him, and it may be enough to pull him out of retirement. Over the course of the season, we’ll discover that what’s happening in the present day is directly tied to events that occurred during his ‘90s Camp Pendleton days,” showrunner and executive producer David J. North recently told Deadline about Harmon’s story this season.
When I asked North if we can expect to see any other NCIS legends as part of this mystery or potential crossovers, he teased, “I’d say it’s a definite possibility…”
NCIS: Origins follows a young Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Austin Stowell) in the early ‘90s, years prior to the events of NCIS, and is narrated by Harmon. It also stars Kyle Schmid, Mariel Molino, Tyla Abercrumbie, Diany Rodriguez, and Caleb Foote.
NCIS: Origins‘ third season executive producers include North, Mark Harmon, Sean Harmon, Michele Greco, and Eric Christian Olsen. CBS Studios produces the series.

EXCLUSIVE: Sam Jaeger (Parenthood, The Handmaid’s Tale) and Ariel Winter (Modern Family, Sofia the First) are set as series regulars in Hallmark Media‘s upcoming series Change of Heart. Rachel Boston (The More the Merrier, Witches of East End), Julie Gonzalo (Supergirl, Dallas) and Kevin Vidal (Workin’ Moms, Culprits) also have been cast in the series, which is set to premiere in 2027, exclusively on Hallmark+.
Created by Jonny Umansky, Change of Heart centers around Charlie Wyatt (Jaeger), the most unlikely of romantic heroes: a renowned divorce attorney known for winning no matter the cost. When a life-altering heart transplant cracks something wide open inside him, Charlie finds himself pulled— almost against his will—toward a more hopeful way of moving through the world. One where he’s compelled to help others find their way back to each other in ways he can’t explain. And alongside it all is his younger sister, Brit (Winter). An unexpected anchor, and partner-in-matchmaking that represents the emotional truth Charlie can’t out-argue: that love isn’t something you win or lose, but something you deserve and choose.

“Great television starts with exceptional storytelling, and finding the right cast to bring those stories to the screen is just as important. We are beyond excited about the talented, seasoned actors bringing Change of Heart to life,” remarked Michelle Vicary, Head of Programming, Hallmark Media. “Sam, Ariel, Rachel, Julie and Kevin each bring something unique to these richly drawn characters, creating the foundation for a series that will immediately connect with the audience. As Hallmark+ continues to grow its slate of successful original programming, on the heels of standout series like Hope Valley: 1874 and Paris Is Always a Good Idea, Change of Heart underscores our commitment to delivering the heartfelt, premium storytelling that viewers come to Hallmark+ to discover and return to watch week after week.”
“We’re excited to build on our longstanding Hallmark partnership with Change of Heart, following the success of The Way Home. We look forward to bringing audiences a fresh, character-driven series with humor, heart, and a distinct point of view,” said Hannah Pillemer, Head of Scripted, FOX Entertainment Studios. “Sam and Ariel lead a terrific ensemble in a world of unexpected connections, the kind of storytelling we champion at Fox Entertainment Studios.”

Euphoria creator Sam Levinson is on the move.
Levinson has struck an overall television deal with Amazon MGM Studios. He will develop and produce series for Prime Video and the studio as part of the pact, which also includes executive producing services for his Tiny Goat Productions partner, and wife, Ashley Levinson.
Levinson previously had a deal with HBO, where all of his television work has aired.
The move comes after the end of Euphoria, the teen drama that starred Zendaya, Jacob Elordi, Sydney Sweeney and Colman Domingo. He revealed the series would end after its third season, which premiered earlier this year and came after a four-year gap from season two.
Levinson got his start writing black comedy action film Operation: Endgame, starring Ellen Barkin, before directing Another Happy Day and getting a writing credit on his father Barry Levinson’s HBO movie The Wizard of Lies.
Euphoria launched in 2019 and became a much-talked about series for the network, which is now owned by Skydance. He followed it up with two movies: Assassination Nation and Malcolm & Marie, starring Zendaya and John David Washington.
After that, he exec produced HBO miniseries Irma Vep before writing and directing The Idol, the pop star vehicle starring The Weeknd.
“Sam Levinson is one of the most daring and original voices in television today, with a fearless commitment to authentic storytelling that resonates with audiences around the world,” said Peter Friedlander, Head of Global Television, Amazon MGM Studios. “We’re thrilled to welcome Sam and Ashley and to give them the creative freedom and global platform to develop their projects.”
“Peter and his team have inspired us from our very first conversation,” added Levinson. “Ashley and I are grateful for their trust, and we can’t wait to get to work and deliver for audiences around the world.”
