The trilogy has been a long time in the making. The first film premiered in Japan on September 6, 2024, followed by the second part on November 7, 2025. With the third and final chapter now locked in, fans have just over three months to wait before the story reaches its conclusion.
A Spin-Off That Stood on Its Own
Love Live! Nijigasaki High School Idol Club began as a spin-off of the Love Live! idol franchise. The first season aired in October 2020, followed by a second season in April 2022 and an OVA in June 2023. Unlike the other Love Live! groups, the Nijigasaki members perform as solo idols, giving the series a distinct identity within the franchise.
Studio Sunrise has handled production across the entire anime project, from the TV seasons to the film trilogy.
What the Series Is About
Set at Nijigasaki High School, a school known for its diverse subjects and the freedom it gives students, the story follows second-year student Yu Takasaki, who becomes charmed by school idols and knocks on the door of the School Idol Club with her friend Ayumu Uehara. Sometimes friends and sometimes rivals, each member brings their own thoughts and motivations to the group.
Both seasons are currently streaming on Crunchyroll. As the franchise approaches its final chapter, this February 2027 premiere marks the end of an era for the Nijigasaki idols — and the trailer promises an emotional send-off.
