Square Enix’s Kingdom Hearts Collection [I~III] has stormed to the top of Japan’s weekly video game sales chart, moving 23,411 copies on Nintendo Switch 2 in its debut week. The chart-topping performance for the October 5–11 tracking period confirms that nostalgia for Sora and company still sells big in Japan — and the collection pulled double duty with a PS5 edition also cracking the top five.
The rankings show a week dominated by new releases, with four fresh titles landing inside the top ten across both Nintendo and Sony platforms.
Kingdom Hearts Rules Both Platforms
The Switch 2 version of Kingdom Hearts Collection [I~III] took the No. 1 spot with 23,411 units, while the PlayStation 5 edition debuted at No. 5 with another 6,261 copies. Combined, the collection pushed nearly 30,000 physical copies in a single week — an impressive showing for a compilation release.
It wasn’t the only RPG making waves. Capcom’s Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen launched on both platforms the same week, landing at No. 4 on Switch 2 (7,314 copies) and No. 8 on PS5 (5,099 copies). Meanwhile, Earth Defense Force 5 from D3 Publisher debuted at No. 7 with 5,237 copies, proving the bug-blasting series still has legs.
Nintendo’s Evergreens Hold Strong
Beneath the newcomers, Nintendo’s catalog titles refused to budge. Rhythm Heaven Groove held No. 2 with 14,527 copies, pushing its lifetime total past 1.08 million — a monster run for the quirky rhythm series. Ace Combat 8 from Bandai Namco soared to No. 3 on PS5 with 13,801 units, while Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave sat at No. 6 with lifetime sales now over 172,000.
Further down, Splatoon Raiders (681,648 lifetime) and the unstoppable Tomodachi Life — now at a staggering 1.63 million copies — rounded out the top ten. Minecraft and Mario Kart World continued their long chart residencies just outside the upper tier.
With the Switch 2 commanding the majority of the top ten, Nintendo’s new hardware is clearly the center of gravity for Japanese retail right now — and with more heavy hitters due before the holidays, next week’s chart could look very different.
