Netflix delivered a mixed bag in its third-quarter 2026 earnings: revenue met Wall Street estimates and the bottom line slightly beat expectations, but growth is slowing — and a mass layoff of 1,000 employees will drag on fourth-quarter earnings. The streamer is restructuring to reposition itself as revenue growth hit its slowest rate in three years.

The Numbers Behind the Quarter
Netflix posted Q3 revenue of $12.87 billion, up 11.8% year-over-year — a sharp step down from the 17% top-line growth it reported a year ago. Net income came in at $3.66 billion (versus $2.55 billion a year earlier), translating to 87 cents per share, with operating margin at 34.6% against 33.2% expected.
So the machine is still profitable — handsomely so — but the deceleration is unmistakable. Growth cooling to its lowest pace in three years is the number Wall Street will be watching, and the company knows it needs to refresh its content queue urgently.
Layoffs Hang Over Q4
The 1,000-employee layoff was framed as a restructuring effort, but the associated costs will crimp Q4 earnings. It’s a familiar Big Tech pattern: cut costs to protect margins while the top line slows, and take the one-time hit now. The question for investors — and for viewers — is whether a leaner Netflix can produce the next wave of hits fast enough to re-accelerate growth.
The streamer still has one of the deepest slates in the business, including its second most ambitious Colombian series, “Under Siege”, bowing November 6. But with subscriber-era growth stories fading across the industry, Netflix’s next act will be judged on profits, not just hours viewed.
