Dawn of War 4's Necrons and Adeptus Mechanicus Are Nothing Like Space Marines, IGN Says

Dawn of War 4 is nearly here, and IGN’s final preview suggests the two most mysterious factions — the Necrons and the Adeptus Mechanicus — play nothing like the Space Marines and Orks we’ve already seen. With release just weeks away, the Warhammer 40K RTS is stacking up to be the biggest entry in the series yet.

At first glance, spending two faction slots on what could broadly be called “robot guys” seems odd. But hands-on time proves the Terminator-like Necrons and the cybernetic humans of the AdMech claim their own niches, with significantly different playstyles from the two factions revealed earlier.

The AdMech campaign digs into Kronus intrigue

The first six AdMech missions strike a very different tone from the Orks’ brute-force campaign. Playing as the followers of the Omnissiah, you engage with the events on Kronus more proactively, caught up in the intrigue surrounding the deepening Necron presence. It’s the second of the four campaigns chronologically, and choices from the Ork campaign — like which warboss you elevated — can even carry over and shape the Ork enemies you face.

Some rough edges before launch

IGN notes a few technical rough spots a few weeks out from release, though that’s hardly unusual for a preview build. The core takeaway is clear: these two factions are not reskins, and their match-up on the battlefield should give Warhammer strategy fans plenty to dig into when Dawn of War 4 lands.
