Joe Perry will miss tonight’s West Coast debut of the Hollywood Vampires documentary “Unleashed Spirits: The Rise of the Hollywood Vampires” at the Newport Beach Film Festival. The Aerosmith guitarist and Vampires co-founder announced Thursday afternoon that he cannot make the sold-out screening at the Lido Theater.

Aerosmith Rehearsals Take Priority
Perry explained on his social feeds that with Aerosmith performing together for the first time in three years, and rehearsing diligently for two upcoming shows at the Hollywood Bowl, he simply cannot break away to attend. The documentary, helmed by Daniel E. Catullo III, still promises a live Q&A following the 8 p.m. PT screening with the director and other members of the Hollywood Vampires.
Unleashed Spirits: The Rise of the Hollywood Vampires
The supergroup — built around Johnny Depp, Alice Cooper and Joe Perry — has been celebrating its story on screen, and the Newport Beach Film Festival stop is the documentary’s West Coast premiere. For Perry, the pull of an Aerosmith reunion is hard to beat: the band’s first shared stage in three years is the bigger headline, and fans heading to the Hollywood Bowl shows will not be complaining.
