Jordan plays NYC police detective Ricardo Tubbs, while Leguizamo confirmed on Instagram that he portrays Esteban Calderone — the Colombian cartel boss who served as the pilot’s antagonist. It is a full-circle casting: Leguizamo got his big break playing Calderone’s son in the original series back in the 1980s.

Miami Vice ’85: Austin Butler as Sonny Crockett

Recent batches of set photos also reveal Austin Butler as Sonny Crockett, Tubbs’ future partner, shooting the earliest sequences that introduced both characters in the original two-part pilot. The production has clearly gone deep on authenticity, rebuilding the pilot’s iconic opening moments for a new generation.

It is known that Miami Vice ’85 takes inspiration from the series’ legendary two-part pilot — the one that launched Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas into stardom in 1984 and defined an entire era of pastel-and-palm-tree cool.
