Myles Borne has responded to WWE NXT fans hitting him with the infamous “What?” chants — and his reaction is not what the crowd expected. The catch? Borne could not even hear the chants in the first place.

Borne, who has a hearing impairment, revealed during an appearance on The Finish with Corey Smith and Tor Smith that he had no idea fans were chanting at him during a recent NXT segment. He only found out afterward, when he watched the segment back with closed captions turned on.
Myles Borne “What?” Chants: He Only Found Out From Closed Captions
Rather than being bothered by the situation, Borne found the whole thing hilarious. As he saw it, fans were pouring energy into trying to get a reaction from someone who could not hear them — and the effort was wasted. He joked that if fans wanted his attention, they would have to be a lot louder than that.
Borne was not offended once he realized what had happened. If anything, knowing that fans were repeatedly shouting at someone who could not hear them only made the situation funnier to him. “I think it’s funny,” he said of the crowd’s efforts, adding his thanks once he saw what they had been chanting.
Why the “What?” Chant Backfired on NXT Fans
The “What?” chant has been a staple of wrestling crowds for decades, used to interrupt promos and throw wrestlers off their game. But Borne’s situation gave it an unusual twist: fans were trying to get under his skin in real time while he was completely unaware of what they were doing.
Borne clearly is not losing any sleep over the chants, and his laid-back response might actually make things tougher for fans trying to mess with him going forward. After all, it is pretty difficult to derail someone’s promo when they do not even realize you are trying.
