One of the most famous championship belts in WWE history has just sold for an enormous price. The Intercontinental Championship used during Randy Savage and Ricky Steamboat’s legendary WrestleMania III match has been auctioned off for $716,750.

The auction closed on October 25, 2026 through Heritage Auctions, with a final bid of $587,500. Once the buyer’s premium was added, the final price climbed to $716,750 — a figure that underlines just how valuable a physical piece of wrestling’s golden era has become.

This was not a belt connected to just one famous match. The championship was used from 1985 through 1988 and was held by Tito Santana, Randy “Macho Man” Savage, Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat and The Honky Tonk Man during one of WWE’s biggest eras.

Its biggest piece of history came at WrestleMania III on March 29, 1987. Savage walked into the Pontiac Silverdome as Intercontinental Champion before Steamboat defeated him in a match that remains one of the most celebrated bouts in WrestleMania history. While Hulk Hogan vs. Andre the Giant headlined the show, Savage vs. Steamboat became a classic in its own right — a masterclass in pacing, storytelling and athleticism that fans and wrestlers still study today.

Steamboat’s victory ended Savage’s championship reign and put this exact belt right in the middle of one of wrestling’s most famous matches. Getting a championship belt connected to one WWE Hall of Famer would already make for a serious collectible, but this one passed through the hands of four of them during the 1980s boom.

What the WrestleMania III Intercontinental belt looks like today

The belt certainly shows its age after years on the road. Heritage Auctions noted that it measures 48.5 inches from end to end and has visible wear from being carried around during its years as WWE’s active Intercontinental Championship, including a piece of black tape on the reverse. For collectors, that wear is part of the appeal — proof that this was a working championship, not a replica made for display.

The sale also continues a wild year for vintage WWE memorabilia at Heritage Auctions. Hulk Hogan’s photo-matched WrestleMania I boots sold for $1.037 million in February, while his WrestleMania II photo-matched championship belt fetched $414,800 in August. The Savage-Steamboat belt, at $716,750, sits comfortably between those two landmarks.

Someone was clearly willing to pay a huge premium to own a physical piece of WrestleMania III history. For the buyer, the belt is more than metal and leather — it is the championship that was on the line when two of wrestling’s greatest performers delivered one of its greatest matches.
