The Bloodborne movie just took a major step forward. Producer Seán “Jacksepticeye” McLoughlin has confirmed to IGN that the animated film now has a writer and a director attached — a big leap since the project was first announced over six months ago without either in place.

McLoughlin shared the promising Bloodborne movie update while speaking with IGN about becoming the new elusive target in Hitman (out today). He confirmed the film is making “great progress” but kept a lid on the names involved.
Bloodborne Movie Writer and Director Confirmed
“Things are obviously much more along the pipeline than they were back then,” McLoughlin said. “We definitely have a lot more stuff mapped out where we’re going with the story, and there are people in place to make this thing happen. Hopefully sooner than later, we can have announcements where we talk about who’s involved and where it’s going, and little teases of the story and where we’re at with that.”
The identities of the writer and director remain under wraps for now. It’s unclear when the next reveal will land, but there are natural opportunities ahead — perhaps at The Game Awards this December, or during another gaming event next year.
Animated Bloodborne vs. Live-Action Elden Ring
McLoughlin also noted a key distinction in how the Bloodborne film is being adapted: unlike Alex Garland’s Elden Ring, which will be live action, the Bloodborne movie is an animated film — a choice that could let it lean into the gothic horror of FromSoftware’s Yharnam in ways live action might struggle to capture.
“But I am proud of the work I’ve been doing on it,” he added. “It can be really stressful as well at the same time because you’re taking on such a monumental IP… and we’re poised to have something really cool.”
