Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma manga artist Shun Saeki announced on Sunday that they have ended their exclusive contract with Shueisha — a deal they had maintained for many years — and are now accepting inquiries for new projects.

Saeki expressed gratitude to everyone who has supported them so far. The artist is open to work as an illustrator, character designer and in other drawing roles — though they noted they are unable to accept long-term projects at this time. Saeki shared a contact email and said they hope for wonderful new opportunities.
Shun Saeki’s Shueisha Career: From Food Wars to Tenmaku Cinema
Saeki’s partnership with Shueisha is one of Weekly Shonen Jump’s most recognizable of the past decade. Writer Yuto Tsukuda and Saeki launched the Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma manga in Weekly Shonen Jump in 2012, and the culinary battle series ran until August 2019, concluding after a three-chapter epilogue. Chef Yuki Morisaki was credited for recipe cooperation throughout the run.
The pair later collaborated with writer NisiOisin on one-shots in Weekly Shonen Jump in September 2019 and May 2020, before launching the Tenmaku Cinema manga in April 2023. That series ended in September of the same year, with a bonus chapter that November.
What Comes Next for the Food Wars Artist?
Ending an exclusive contract is a major career move for a Jump artist — it frees Saeki to work with any publisher or studio. With the artist explicitly ruling out long-term commitments for now, fans can likely expect short-term illustration work, character design gigs or one-shots before any new serialized project.
Given Saeki’s track record of turning cooking battles into high-energy Jump hits, whatever comes next is worth watching. Food Wars! remains available in English via Viz Media and Shueisha’s MANGA Plus service.
