Here are the headline picks from IGN’s fall 2026 anime guide, and why each one deserves a spot on your watchlist.
Cyberpunk Edgerunners returns to Night City
The award-winning Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is back, headlining the season for fans who have been waiting to return to Night City. After the first season became a breakout hit, the new run is one of the most talked-about returns of the fall season.
Steel Ball Run brings JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure back
JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure continues with the highly anticipated Steel Ball Run arc, the bizarre cross-country race that fans have long wanted to see animated. It is one of the most beloved stretches of the JoJo saga, and its arrival makes fall 2026 a landmark season for the franchise.
Overgeared and the season’s lighter side
For viewers who want laughs with their fantasy, Overgeared brings its hilarious take on the genre to the fall lineup, balancing out the season’s heavier action and drama.
Aoashi Season 2 hits the pitch on Crunchyroll
The sports series Aoashi returns with Season 2, picking up years after Ashito and his teammates began their climb through the Tokyo City football club ranks. With Ashito having made a strong impression, the competition ramps up again this season, and TMS Entertainment — known for Dr. Stone and Yowamushi Pedal — takes over animation production. Grounded and character-driven in the style of Haikyu, rather than the over-the-top energy of Blue Lock, Aoashi Season 2 is available now on Crunchyroll.
Blue Box Season 2 serves sports and romance on Netflix
Blue Box is also back with Season 2, continuing the sports-and-romance drama of Taiki and friends as they navigate feelings left hanging at the end of last season. Electric Circus, a newer studio made up of former Telecom Animation Film staff, handles animation this time around. If you want a breather from the season’s action-heavy lineup, Blue Box Season 2 is available now on Netflix.
With heavy hitters like Edgerunners and Steel Ball Run alongside grounded sports stories, fall 2026 is shaping up to be one of the strongest anime seasons in years — and most of it is streaming right now.
