Looking for the best PC gaming handheld on the market right now? According to How-To Geek’s ASUS ROG Xbox Ally X20 review, this special-edition handheld is exactly that, with one brutal catch: you probably cannot buy one for a reasonable price.

The Xbox Ally X20 celebrates 20 years of Republic of Gamers and 25 years of Xbox, and unlike most anniversary hardware, it is a meaningful upgrade over the standard Xbox Ally X. After extensive testing, reviewer Zachary Boddy calls it “the best all-around PC gaming handheld you can buy right now,” with fantastic hardware, reliable gaming performance and the smoothest Windows 11 handheld software experience thanks to Xbox Mode.
ASUS ROG Xbox Ally X20 Specs and Price
The headline specs explain the 9/10 score: an AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme 8-core chip, 24GB of LPDDR5X RAM running at 8,000MHz, a 7.4-inch OLED display with strong color accuracy, and a premium translucent design with improved ergonomics. It measures 300 x 121 x 27.5-51.3mm and weighs 756g.
The pricing is where things get painful. The standalone handheld with a USB-C charger costs $1,300 at ASUS and Best Buy. The $2,500 bundle adds a Dbrand Killswitch case and travel cover, a custom Pelican hard case, and the $850 ASUS ROG XREAL R1 augmented reality glasses in a matching limited-edition design. That bundle, the review notes, is overkill for most people.
Should You Buy the Xbox Ally X20?
If you already own the standard Xbox Ally X or even an older ASUS ROG Ally X, the review suggests the improvements are real but the price makes upgrading a tough sell. And right now, availability is the bigger problem: stock is extremely limited, and prices on the secondary market run far above retail.
The verdict: this is the culmination of all of ASUS’ handheld experience in one premium device, and the Xbox Ally X20 would be an easy recommendation if you could actually find it. For now, it remains the best PC gaming handheld on paper, and the hardest to buy.
