Darren Young is officially back in WWE — and the timing could not have been more emotional. Nine years to the day after the company released him, Young announced he has returned as a coach for WWE NXT at the Performance Center.
Young broke the news on social media, admitting he is “fighting back tears of joy every time I pull up to the Performance Center” and that he is grateful for the opportunity to give back to the next generation of wrestlers.
Darren Young’s Emotional WWE Return as NXT Coach
Young shared photos from his return, including one alongside Shawn Michaels at the Performance Center. Instead of simply hearing about what WWE currently wants from its developmental talent, he said he now gets to experience the system firsthand — “NOW I’m able to see it for myself and be a sponge in this environment.”
There is a full-circle element to the story. Young was once the guy grinding inside WWE’s developmental system, trying to prove he belonged on the main roster. Now he is back sharing those experiences and helping shape wrestlers trying to make that exact same jump. He also made sure to remind everyone he competed on the original NXT in 2010 before becoming part of The Nexus: “And when you talk about NXT, don’t forget the ORIGINAL NXT! MR. NO DAYS OFF baby!”
Mr. No Days Off’s Message to the Next Generation
Young thanked WWE for bringing him back, and made it clear this is no ceremonial appearance — he is there to teach. Nine years ago, he walked out the door wondering what came next. Now he walks back in alongside Shawn Michaels, with a new generation looking to him for guidance. “Nine years later, still standing, still inspiring, and STILL NO DAYS OFF!”
