Scott Bain's 9-Save Masterclass Ends Falkirk's 19-Year Wait for a Win Over Celtic

Scott Bain produced a goalkeeping masterclass as Falkirk beat Celtic 2-0 to end a 19-year wait for a victory over their Scottish Premiership rivals. The former Celtic shot-stopper was “imperious” and “unbeatable” on a day that will live long in Falkirk folklore.

Scott Bain makes 9 saves as Falkirk stun Celtic

Bain made nine saves against his old club, a number of them outstanding, as Falkirk recorded a fourth consecutive win and climbed to fourth place in the Scottish Premiership. The clean sheet was their third in a row — a run of 342 minutes without conceding.

“Scott Bain was unbelievable,” former Celtic goalkeeper Pat Bonner said. “Absolutely unbelievable. It was a terrific display from Falkirk defensively. Falkirk deserve it. They’ve got a terrific young team.”

Bain himself said it felt like one of those days where nothing would get past him: “You can’t really get a better day as a goalkeeper than thinking that you’re not going to be beaten. So, really, really pleased for my own performance, but more so pleased for the team.”

Scotland squad boost for Bain

The timing could not be better for the Scotland international. With the Scotland squad for the upcoming Nations League fixtures announced this week, Bain’s heroics will have strengthened his case for a place — and perhaps even a starting role — under head coach Sebastien Pocognoli.

The result also piled more pressure on Martin O’Neill’s Celtic, now with six defeats in ten games. Bain, who signed a Falkirk contract extension in January keeping him at the club until summer 2028, has been “outstanding from the moment he walked into the club” according to manager John McGlynn.
