Phantom Blade Zero tops Steam charts at launch
The numbers are staggering. At launch, Phantom Blade Zero was ahead of PUBG and Dota 2 on Steam’s charts, and it was the best-selling game on Steam by revenue, beating Modern Warfare 4, Aion 2 and even Probably Stolen, the viral Cyberpunk shopkeeper sim. Steam concurrent players peaked on Sunday at a whopping 833,921.
The official Phantom Blade Zero account shared the news with fans: “Thank you everyone from the bottom of our hearts for all the love and support!”
The early signs were there: an estimated over 1 million copies sold before launch across Steam, PS5 and Tencent’s WeGame, with nearly two-thirds of pre-launch sales coming from China, Taiwan and Hong Kong.
A 9/10 launch — but not quite Wukong
Critics are on board too. The game earned a 9/10, praised as “an unbelievably smooth action game filled with memorable boss fights, compelling combat, and limitless swagger.” The cast includes Roger Craig Smith (Sonic, Ezio, Batman) as the lead, Maggie Robertson (Lady Dimitrescu), and Donnie Yen as a key creative consultant who also stars as Mó Yuan through full facial, voice and motion capture.
It’s a monster hit — though not quite at Black Myth: Wukong’s level, which managed 10 million sales in its first three days. Still, 4 million in 72 hours puts Phantom Blade Zero among the fastest-selling action games ever.
