Trump Stops Speech to Survey Crowd on Possible Vance-Rubio 2028 Faceoff

Published

on

Donald Trump stopped his speech at a White House event to take an impromptu poll regarding the 2028 presidential election, asking attendees to weigh in on two possible candidates.

During his speech at Monday’s Rose Garden Club Dinner, Trump stopped his address to survey the room to see if they supported Vice President JD Vance or Secretary of State Marco Rubio in a possible run for president.

“Who’s it going to be? Is it going to be JD?” the president noted after bemoaning about California Governor Gavin Newsom and his potential bid for president. “Is it going to be somebody else? I don’t know … Okay, let’s go. You ready? Who likes JD Vance?”

After the crowd burst out into applause at the mention of the vice president, Trump asked a follow up question: “Who likes Marco Rubio?”

This question also prompted a round of applause, inspiring Trump to suggest the two politicians could make decent running mates.

“All right, sounds like a good ticket … That was a perfect ticket,” Trump went on. “By the way, I do believe that’s a dream team, but these are minor details. That does not mean you have my endorsement under any circumstance.”

Additionally, Trump doubled down on his criticism of Governor Newsom, once again bringing up the California democrat’s learning disability. Specifically, Trump claimed Newsom called himself “a stupid person” for opening up about his life long struggle with dyslexia, adding, “He got bad test marks. He got bad this. He got bad that. He can’t read a speech.”

“He’s not a smart person,” Trump said. “He said, ‘I’m dumb just like all the people in this room.’ And now he was accused of being a racist … This guy, what he said is so bad. It was the worst interview I’ve ever seen by a professional politician.”

The president’s comments, which echoed a sentiment he shared back in March, appeared to reference backlash Newsom faced for telling a predominantly Black crowd at an Atlanta book event that he wasn’t “trying to impress [them]” before sharing his poor test scores.

“I’m no better than you,” the governor told Mayor Andre Dickens at the time. He later brought up his low SAT score, noting “Literally a 960 SAT guy, you’ve never seen me read a speech. Because I cannot read a speech. Maybe the wrong business to be in.”

Newsom called Trump “a brain-dead moron who bombs children and protects pedophiles” in response to the criticism in March.

Hannah Harper has been crowned the winner of American Idol Season 24.

Tonight’s live three-hour season finale delivered an unforgettable night of music as audiences voted in favor of Harper. Meanwhile, competitors Jordan McCullough and Keyla Richardson finished runner-up and in third place, respectively.

The star-studded evening featured Alicia Keys as guest mentor, as well as special performer. Her addition was announced back in late April, as the 17-time Grammy-winning artist coached the Top 3 finalists for the stage and a final chance to earn America’s vote.

Judges Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie and Carrie Underwood also took the stage tonight in a special group performance. The lattermost country singer also performed alongside Mötley Crüe. There were additional performances by Brad Paisley, Cameron Whitcomb, Clay Aiken, En Vogue, Jason Mraz, Lee Ann Womack, Nelly, Shinedown, and Tori Kelly, as well as bands Blues Traveler and Gin Blossoms.

Earlier in the season, former Idol finalist Jennifer Hudson returned to the reality singing competition show as a guest judge and mentor, guiding the Top 9 in the Disney Night themed competition.

American Idol saw its biggest season debut this January since Season 20 four years ago. The Ryan Seacrest-hosted talent show previously aired on Sunday nights but moved to Mondays this year.

The ABC show is produced by Fremantle and 19 Entertainment, a part of Sony Pictures Television. Jon Stewart Roasts Hantavirus Coverage for ‘Treating It Like the OJ Chase’

Published

on

Jon Stewart laid into the media coverage of the hantavirus outbreak, accusing reporters of “treating it like the O.J. [Simpson] chase.”

The comedian weighed in on the recent hantavirus outbreak on the cruise ship MV Hondius during Monday’s monologue for “The Daily Show,” where he emphasized that the illness was not set to start another global pandemic — despite certain sensationalized reports suggesting otherwise.

“I know we don’t have to be hysterical about it. It’s a choice. But you know what? It’s a relief. I’m glad we don’t have to be hysterical about it,” Stewart noted after playing the first initial reports about the hantavirus, explaining how the disease wasn’t like COVID-19. “COVID was a respiratory virus, passes easily, often when the person isn’t symptomatic. It was a brand new virus we had never seen before, and we weren’t allowed to know where it came from. I mean, we didn’t know. We were obviously allowed to know. We just didn’t know. Wink.”

He continued: “While the hantavirus is a known virus, it’s difficult to transmit. It’s mostly spread by rat infestation, which does raise the question. How did a cruise ship end up with hantavirus on it?”

After poking fun at the origins of the outbreak, which stemmed from a couple who went bird watching at a rat-infested landfill, Stewart declared: “The point is, some people may get pretty sick, but forget COVID. This ain’t no pandemic. Hell, this hantavirus ain’t even in monkeypox territory.”

Yet, Stewart bemoaned that “reality don’t sell papers,” noting that despite learning the truth on Tuesday, media coverage continued to sound the alarm over the illness.

“You gotta fight for your right to be nervous,” Stewart said. “Yes, we might have a right to be nervous, but I guess the question the news might want to ask is, do we have a reason? And your assignment, news, should you choose to accept it, is to help the public discern the difference. So may we hear from the experts again?”

He added: “Sunday we found out hantavirus had been on a cruise ship. Monday through Thursday, expert upon expert, scientist upon scientist, very transparently explained why this illness, while a serious illness, is a low-level public health threat. Their words went a long way to easing the concerns of a curious public. And Lord knows the news can’t let that happen.”

At this point, Stewart played footage from “Nightline,” which presented the hantavirus outbreak as “a floating nightmare” and posed the question: “Could this become the next pandemic?”

“The question of whether it was going to be the next pandemic had been asked and answered for three days,” Stewart noted. “But apparently, that was before the authorities decided not to fire a torpedo and sink the cruise ship, burying its diseased passengers and cruise entertainers in a watery grave befitting their disease. That’s right, folks. These people from this ship were going to be allowed to disembark.”

The late night host then ripped into the play-by-play coverage that followed the disembarkment, noting, “They were treating it like the O.J. chase … That’s the logistics of how you get from a boat to the f–king shore.”

“Drone video?! Spectacular! Such good use of drones,” he went on. “Ukraine uses theirs to defeat Russia, but good on you. I still have not learned enough. I mean, I know they’ve gone from a boat to a smaller boat to a tent to a bus, but at this point, I’ve somewhat lost the trail. Where will it end?”

Stewart then roasted a NewsNation reporter for asking the same question over and over again regarding the Hantavirus, despite getting the same answer every time.

“No matter how many times the question can be asked and answered, it doesn’t f–king matter for some people. And sometimes, it’s the same person,” he said. “Jesus, lady. How badly do you just want to work from home? Just work from home. We’re not all going to die. That’s a good thing.”

“The Daily Show” airs weeknights at 11 p.m. ET on Comedy Central.

Late-Night Hosts Announce New Strike Force Five Special Video Episode

Published

on

Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel, Seth Meyers and John Oliver are reuniting for a special video episode of their erstwhile podcast Strike Force Five, the quintet of late-night hosts announced during their joint appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

“Emergency @strikeforcefive episode loading! ⚡,” Colbert and Kimmel posted to Instagram.

The new episode, which will be made available May 13, is in honor of the The Late Show‘s impending series finale May 21.

A limited-run podcast venture that first cropped up in 2023 at the height of the dual Hollywood strikes, Strike Force Five was a surefire hit with audiences, featuring five suddenly unemployed late-night staples having compelling conversations. As with the previous 12 installments, where revenue served to support the shows’ out-of-work staff, the new episode’s proceeds will benefit the World Central Kitchen, an international nonprofit that provides meals during humanitarian crises.

When the WGA strike began in May 2023, the quintet began meeting weekly on Zoom to grapple with the serious realities of a work stoppage, resulting in a spate of candid and funny chats.

Audiences can stream the new Strike Force Five taping on Spotify, its YouTube channel and wherever podcasts are found.

The news comes after it was announced last week that Kimmel, Fallon, Meyers and Oliver would be joining Colbert on tonight’s episode as part of a Strike Force Five reunion. Another late-night icon and Colbert’s predecessor, David Letterman, will feature on The Late Show‘s Thursday episode.

Earlier today, Kimmel also revealed he would be airing a repeat episode May 21, going dark that Thursday “out of deference to Colbert’s sendoff.”
