Jack Singleton joins Glasgow Warriors a year after cardiac event

Published

Former England hooker Jack Singleton has joined Glasgow Warriors 13 months after experiencing a cardiac event in training.

The 30-year-old has agreed a short-term deal to provide cover during the Nations Championship and Six Nations.

Singleton spent six years with Gloucester, where he scored 20 tries in 75 appearances, after playing for Worcester and Saracens.

He admits the thought of never playing again “definitely crossed my mind” as he had stents and balloons fitted to open up his arteries.

“It’s a hereditary condition that we didn’t know about,” he explained. “Since the operations and procedures that I’ve had and the drugs that I’m now taking, everything’s more under control.

“I’m in a much safer spot than I was 16 months ago when I was playing.”

Singleton, who has four England caps, has been doing “full running sessions” since May but is unsure of when he will be fit to resume playing.

“I’m looking forward to just getting stuck into training,” he said. “It’s a massive privilege for me to be a part of this group.

“I’ve seen the success in the European runs they went on last year. I remember watching that Toulouse game and the atmosphere looked unbelievable.

“Honestly, if they asked me to play this weekend, I’d get out there. I probably wouldn’t give a great account of myself, to be fair.”

Singleton last represented England in 2022 and is Scottish-qualified through his grandparents.

However, he is not looking beyond getting back on the pitch with the Warriors.

“I’m more just worrying about training right now and then hopefully playing, and then we’ll see what happens after,” he said.

Glasgow hookers Gregor Hiddleston and Seb Stephen are likely to be called up for Scotland’s internationals in November, February and March.

Rory McIlroy would vote to have LIV players back on PGA Tour

Published

On Monday, the DP World Tour said players who sign up to LIV’s 2027 season will not be allowed to be members of the Europe-based circuit.

McIlroy, who was speaking to Bloomberg in New Delhi before playing in the DP World India Championship, added: “It looks like every day that goes by, there’s another player that was on LIV who says that they’re not going to rejoin for LIV 2.0.

“So I think it is going to be very difficult for them to get out of this Chapter 11 bankruptcy and go forward.

“If they do, it’s certainly not going to be a threat to the traditional order of the game as maybe it once was.”

As one of the PGA Tour’s biggest stars, McIlroy immediately became a vocal opponent of LIV when it fractured men’s professional golf four years ago.

Asked about his long-standing criticism, he said he and 15-time major winner Tiger Woods voiced their displeasure at LIV’s emergence because “we were probably the two that had the most to lose”.

“We both felt this wasn’t good for the game and it was going to fracture the game,” he added.

“But also, everyone around the game has interests and we were about to launch TGL (Tomorrow’s Golf League) and we thought LIV could have taken something away from TGL, which it did because some players went to LIV and you had to be a PGA Tour member to play in TGL.

“Everyone has different interests in the game. You’re trying to protect your interests but also the interests of the game as a whole.”
