The announcement came through the official account for Takarajimasha’s Kono Manga ga Sugoi! guidebook, confirming the final volume date for Ryota Yuzuki’s spinoff manga, which is based on Asari Endo’s Magical Girl Raising Project light novel series.

Magical Girl Raising Project F2P Manga Ending Explained

The spinoff follows Alma and Supinon, two researchers from the land of magic. Their mission takes them to F City, where reports point to a magical girl with an extraordinary ability: the power to cancel death. Their job is to investigate that claim and, if possible, bring her under their control.

What they discover in F City, however, goes far beyond what either of them expected. That sense of a simple investigation spiralling into something much stranger sits at the heart of the series, and it fits neatly into the wider Magical Girl Raising Project world, where magical power rarely comes without a cost.

Yuzuki first launched the manga on Takarajimasha’s Kono Manga ga Sugoi! Web platform in August 2016. It went on hiatus in October 2017, leaving readers waiting for years. The series finally resumed in February 2026, giving fans a chance to see the story move toward a proper conclusion rather than fading away unfinished.

A Spinoff With a Stage Play and a Bigger Universe

The manga also made the jump beyond the page, inspiring a stage play in February 2025. That adaptation underlined how much staying power the franchise still has, even for a spinoff that spent most of its life on pause.

The original light novel series remains the foundation of it all. Endo launched it through Takarajimasha’s Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi! Bunko imprint in June 2012, and the 19th volume arrived in October 2023. In that world, a social game called The Magical Girl Raising Project turns one person in tens of thousands into a magical girl, granting enhanced strength, appearance and special powers.

The twist that made the series famous is how quickly that dream turns dark. In one district with 16 magical girls, administrators decide the number must be halved to solve a shortage of magical energy. What begins as a race to collect magical candy soon becomes a brutal fight for survival, with the rules bending in increasingly cruel directions.

That premise has spawned sequels and spinoffs exploring different corners of the setting, including the Restart arc. A manga adaptation of Restart launched in 2016, and a television anime adaptation of that arc debuted on October 5, streaming on OceanVeil as it airs in Japan.

The first 12-episode Magical Girl Raising Project anime premiered in Japan in October 2016, with Crunchyroll streaming it as it aired. Yen Press has published the novel series in English since June 2017, making the franchise accessible to readers well beyond Japan.

For longtime fans, the final volume is bittersweet. A series that began a decade ago, disappeared for years, and then returned is finally getting an ending. Volume 5 will close the chapter on Alma and Supinon’s investigation, and on one of the franchise’s most patiently awaited spinoffs.
