Netflix Taps Former Apple Exec Steve Wilson to Lead Podcast Acquisitions
Wilson has been contracted by Netflix to head the company’s podcast division, Deadline reports. The hire signals that Netflix is getting serious about podcasts, not just as a side project but as a genuine growth area alongside its film and television business.
Wilson brings deep experience to the role. He spent 15 years at Apple, working across editorial, partner relations and marketing for Apple Podcasts, before leaving in 2020 to join QCode as Chief Strategy Officer, where he oversaw partnerships, marketing, distribution and content strategy.
What Steve Wilson Brings to Netflix Podcasts
When he joined QCode, Wilson said podcasting “empowers individuals to share their voice with the world and promote storytelling, which engenders connection and empathy,” a philosophy he can now apply at Netflix as it builds out its podcast slate.
For Netflix, the move makes strategic sense. Podcasts can deepen engagement with its biggest franchises, introduce new audiences to its stories, and open up fresh revenue and marketing channels, all without the production costs of a full series. With a veteran like Wilson leading acquisitions, expect Netflix to move quickly in securing established shows and new voices alike.
