Across her twenty years with Searchlight, Hooper worked across publicity, awards and creative marketing, helping to build the studio into one of the most decorated specialty distributors in Hollywood. Her campaigns contributed to nearly 200 Oscar nominations and more than 130 Golden Globe nominations for the studio.

Of those Oscar nominations, Searchlight converted 49 into wins, including best picture victories for Nomadland, The Shape of Water, Birdman, 12 Years a Slave and Slumdog Millionaire. The studio also earned best picture nominations at the Golden Globes for those titles, plus 15 others, a record that underlines just how central Hooper’s marketing work was to Searchlight’s awards-season dominance.

What Hooper’s Departure Means for Searchlight

Hooper’s exit marks the end of an era for a studio whose identity has long been tied to prestige filmmaking and carefully crafted awards campaigns. Specialty studios live and die by their ability to turn critical favourites into cultural events, and Hooper spent two decades doing exactly that, guiding films from festival buzz to Oscar night.

Her departure leaves a significant gap at the top of Searchlight’s marketing operation, and the industry will be watching closely to see who steps in and what direction the studio’s campaigns take next. For now, Hooper leaves behind a legacy measured in statuettes, and in five best picture winners that defined an era of modern cinema.
